Using QRCodes to Transmit and Track Information

January 8, 2011 Leave a comment

We recently announced the release of activePDF Toolkit 2011, a highly-anticipated version of our API for PDF generation and manipulation. With this release, we’ve expanded our offering of barcodes to include over 80 new barcode symbologies, including QRcode (Quick Response code). With a broad range of business applications, QRcodes can be used to store textual information (including addresses and URLs) which can then be accessed by the user via a QR scanner, smart phone or other mobile device equipped with a camera. Due to the quick decoding afforded by this format, QR codes have popped up in a wide variety of materials including print ads, billboard and in-store displays, event ticketing and tracking, couponing, business cards, email marketing, contest and trade show management.

Upon scan, QR codes can be used to open a URL, connect to a wireless network, add a vCard contact to the user’s device, to compose a text message or email, or simply display a desired text string, making it an ideal format for real-time marketing and data tracking.
